    hi guys
i was wondering.. if posiition of coils has great matter than is it true (just like ivonic said) that it should be nulled in same direction? i mean when i nuuled both coils nulling was in same direction but when i trying to balance coils then i must put them nulled in same direction..that means i must turn one of coils upside down to get same direction of nulling ..am i thinking right?
    regards to all

    [quote = ciclonita; 111379] Buen trabajo @Virdi_248!

    Robert [/ quote]

I am not a great expert in electronics, only I defend myself. Thank you for the information of placing a diode to protect the circuit.
The circuits integrated already I have them. They are these.

    Nice work @Virdi_248!

You may try Mouser Electronics; www.mouser.com for the Chips, but they may still not have the LM308 in stock.

LM308 on eBay for US $1.00:

    or here:

Interesting how many people seem to want to use a fuse as protection device. In this kind of low current applications, a fuse will always be too late. A DIODE in series with the battery (lowers the voltage with about 0.65 V), although giving rise to a slight loss, gives far more protection. Especially in Metal Detectors with interchangeable Batteries. People often make battery polarity mistakes when swapping new batteries. Even a fuse will prove to be worthless in such a cases, and far to slow to protect those sensitive semiconductor components. Preventing a fire from starting, may be considered to be the main motivator for the use of a fuse. Like in your computer and magnetron oven. Electronic components nowadays have a relatively long fire retardancy time, and a "slow" fuse will in most cases work out just fine then. Have you ever heard of a Metal Detector setting the place on fire, for I have not. And using a Metal Detector in a with Methane Gas infested mine, probably won't make much difference too. For a person who lives his or her life with this kind of stupidity, will most probably already have been killed on the way to the mine in the first place.

What will it be, ... Fuse, Diode, Fuse, Diode, Fuse, Diode, ... what the hell, ... then just use them both if it makes you sleep better.

    Regards,

    Robert

It looks very nice. I congratulate anyone who finishes one of these babies, including myself on the rare occasion. Looks like you put the GB pot on the outside, I'm usually lazy and use a trimmer on the PCB and don't adjust it much later.

I think you made the TGSL Final version, correct?

TGSL Tuning & troubleshooting thread is another good one to continue with any detailed questions and problems. Keep us informed how it works and any progress.

    Cheers,

    -SB

    Very nice @lunamay,

Seeing the successes of others will certainly motivate those who would still like to start with this very exiting TGS project.

It looks like the TGS and TGSL both work, so apparently both PCB's are OK.

Has anyone actually build both versions, the TGS and TGSL, and compared the obtained results by using exactly the same Coil? If both designs give similar results, then I would like to build both TGS and TGSL. Everything about this project very much appeals to me. I wouldn't even mind to write a complete Build-Up Manual for both designs with photos tips etc.. But then I would like to receive some feedback to work on. I have purchased MIL Spec Components for the TGSL, and the best-of-the-best for capacitors, resistors, coil wire etc. But it's completely useless to others to make a Write-Up by using these components in an article, for regular obtainable Components will be used by most in any case. Interesting though, is how many MIL Spec Components I see in Metal Detectors from Top Brands. But I suppose that not all of us will be Hunting at -50 °C, and Dynamiting holes into the rock solid ground. But maybe it's only me who likes using explosives, which leaves me thinking? Am I only motivated by treasure hunting, or just the heavy banging during blasting operations. I never seem to find anything after a blast, now I wonder how that can be? Don't wet your pants on this one!

    Robert
