What else am I recalling that might be useful to you here?
Let's see... yes, one of the trimmers on the pcb is crucial for setting the phase.
And you need to spend time fine-tuning that trimmer.
At that time, I did not have multi-turn trimmers, I used ordinary ones.
I believe that with a multi-turn, that adjustment would be easier.
After a lot of annoyance and trouble; I manage to adjust that trimmer so precisely,
I hit the "sweet spot" and the detector becomes a real dragon!
Detects objects in the air up to 2 meters away.
In the soil, of course, much shallower.
But even so "shallow" is much deeper than all the factory detectors that I had the opportunity to test at the time.
Coins at incredible depths, if I start listing examples from personal practice, you will think I am lying or crazy.
All this mentioned so far; only and exclusively with CZ5 coil.
White's stock coils were ridiculously bad compared to that coil.
I have listed everything that is good about this. And now I will mention one single flaw of all this.
CL3 adapted in this way works like a dragon on clean and moderately infested soils. It almost doesn't give false signals at all.
But on heavily mineralized soils, it gives a lot of false signals.
So I've had the practice of retrofitting a switch on the front panel with which I change that 470 resistor with smaller values.
The detector so arranged was very popular, I sold a lot of them and they performed exceptionally well on sites.
Directly from that detector, SMW was later created. Which is better in many ways and significantly deeper.
That's another piece of history...

There is also a note written here, for the 470 ohm resistor.
It says: "smaller value of this resistor = lower sensitivity of the detector but also much greater stability in operation...

I'm in a particularly good mood today, so in your honor I'll share some good information again...
This is my working version of the paper, which I looked at when assembling the pcb from those "hundreds" of my handiwork:
And if you pay close attention to the capacitor values here, you'll also see the values I was talking about:

I just saw this.Originally posted by tomec123 View Post
Sorry, this is nonsens...I try 2 CZ Fisher Coils and they hav less performance then the original 950.
You have to "trim" the TX&RX capacitors as well.
It was long time ago, if I recall correctly; 330nF parallel to RX and 32nF parallel to TX (22+10).
Right info is burried deep down somewhere in the forum, I posted this so long ago.
Also is important to clear up about what coil I was talking about.
At the time I had CZ5, so it was that coil.
I even put it under the x-rays in local hospital and got inner "picture" of it.
Those were the times of great enthusiasm and so few informations.
At the time I made "hundreds" of White's Classic III diys.
And the best stock coil that fits it ; was exactly the Quicksilver 28cm coil.
It could detect coins at unbelievable depths.
But you have to put the effort to trimm the caps and adapt the detector for such coil.
I rarely pay attention on topics like this one, this is coincidental case.
But I don't talk "nonsens" and I don't give people false info.
Either I will provide correct info; either I will not say a thing, but never false info.

It's true dgm! Factory coil outperforms self-built. Here in Peru it is very difficult to get factory reels. Could you mention some White coils that can work with IDX PRO, maybe I'll get one for sale on Facebook.Originally posted by dgm View PostHi Ruben, my IDX pcbs both the green and the red ones are tested and with the right components they are 100% working, maybe your problem could have been the self-built coil. The coil combined with the metal detector plays an important role at least 70% of all the metal detector. At the beginning I bought an original Withe 950 concentric, and with it that I was able to compare my self-built, I was able to overcome the detection distance of about 10 or 15 cm more always in the air.

The LF347 was the one that help the most for me, i got a few different ones from Digiki and swapped them till i found the better of them, and like others has said, the TL071 helps also.Originally posted by dgm View PostHi good morning everyone, I wanted to inform you that IDX Pro in addition to being powerful on its own, I was able to increase its range from 3 to 7 cm depending on the metal of which the target is made (coin or ring). I just changed the Ne5534 with another opam, which was found to be more sensitive, leaving the other functions of the metal detector unchanged. I specify that I did the tests in the air, and not in the ground.
I had the same result with another metal detector I built, Tesoro eldorado.

I'm sorry dgm, I disarmed my IDX PRO since I couldn't find any solution; That's why I asked you to post your PCB and the schematic you followed so I could reassemble it later. I found several IDX PRO schematics but none worked for me. I asked for help in the forum about my problem and you can see it in this link. https://www.geotech1.com/forums/show...317#post291317Originally posted by dgm View PostHi Ruben, it's no secret instead of Ne 5534 I put the TL071 bought at digikey, I don't trust the opam on the net, if you have had problems try to write what the problem is. Anyway my IDX is a red pcb bought from the silver dog. before welding the components I check them one by one looking for the right capacities and resistance of the same value. My IDX is already powerful on its own, with this replacement I had a gain of 10/15% more. If you have not been as successful as poor sensitivity replacing the reception opam you would not have much success. you need to fix the problem with Idx first and then you can try to make changes. Put the photos and tell me what's the problem with your IDX.
