Guess you already see the point - use the smooth signal representation. Digital sampling oscilloscopes go to great lengths to make the sampled signal bearable to watch. For an amateur a good old cathode ray oscilloscope is a premium.

See the Win7 compatibility problem? Useful lifespan of such devices is 10 years max. My CRO is over 20 years old, and it will most probably serve me for 20 more. The best investment one can make.
