Bounty Hunter was founded in 1970 in Klamath Falls, Oregon under the corporate name Pacific Northwest Instruments (PNI). Their first models -- all BFO -- were called the Bounty Hunter I, Bounty Hunter II, and Bounty Hunter III. After that, all models were branded as Bounty Hunter. In the mid-1970s PNI sold the Bounty Hunter brand to Space Data Corporation in Tempe, Arizona. Later, Space Data sold Bounty Hunter to Ray Smith who then sold it to the original Teknetics in Lebanon, Oregon. When Teknetics went bankrupt, Techna (owned by John E. Turner of Jetco) in El Paso, Texas bought the assets and continued producing Bounty Hunter models. In 1990 Techna sold Bounty Hunter and Teknetics to First Texas Products, also in El Paso, who continues to produce Bounty Hunter models.
